Female Genital Mutilation also known as female genital cutting. It is refers to practice of altering and removal of the female genitalia for non medical reasons. It is traditionally performs on teenage girls and ladies often with or without their consent. Its is rooted in cultural, social and sometimes religious. FGM is recognized as a violation of girl right and harmful practice with severe physical and psychological consequences.
Kimeto on his album “Tumtaap Kwonyik” affirms that it is not rightful for a lady to get circumcise or mutilated.
He quoted the Letters of Paul to Galatians . “You foolish Galatians! who has bewitched you?”. Meaning we bewitch ourselves with our own actions.
He went ahead and asked the question. “How can someone marry a woman knowing well that she has not fulfilled all the traditions then after giving birth, he forces her to circumcise “.
It is in the Genesis that circumcision is for the males as a sign of covenant between God and man. Females are not to be circumcised since they go through a lot of main during child birth.
Exodus 17 verse 10. “This is the covenant between me and you and your descendants after you that you must keep: every male among you shall be circumcised. 11Circumcise the flesh of your foreskin. That will be the sign of the covenant between me and you.“
Kimeto in his song also suggest that, the ultimate punishments of such a person should be based on the old ways also. An eye for an eye.
There are different degrees of FGM, ranging from partial removal of the clitoris to more extensive procedure involving the removal of external genitalia and stitching of vaginal opening.
The reason behind FGM varies, including cultural tradition, initiation rituals, notions of purity and modesty, or attempts to control women’s sexuality among other things.

Many countries and international organizations have recognized FGM as a serious human rights issue. They have gone a head and make it in constitution on the consequences upon anyone on that act of violation.
More so, Efforts include legislation, education, raising awareness about its harmful effect and providing support to affected communities to encourage abandonment of the practice.

Discussions must be open, honoring individual choices while upholding rights and fairness.
