The businesswoman Nancy Kigunzu, also known as “Mathee wa Ngara”, holds the reputation of an influential contraband baron. She has file a petition at the Milimani Law Courts, aiming to prevent her arrest and prosecution on drug trafficking allegations.
The Legal label Kigunzu as a notorious drug dealer in the Nairobi. She, however, denies any involvement in the illegal trade and accuses the police of fabricating evidence against her.
“I have never committed any crime in Kenya nor have I been involved in any criminal activity in Kenya. Neither personally nor jointly with others. I therefore do not understand why the police are looking to arrest me,” she say in her court papers.
Kigunzu questions why the police intend to arrest her and have kept her two minor sons, aged 16 and 17, detained for five days without providing any justification.
The prosecutions has urged the court to deny bail to Nancy Kigunzu alias Mathee wa Ngara, Teresia Wanjiru, and two others.
In an affidavit filed at the JKIA law Court, the prosecution requested the court to detain the four individuals, in order to prevent them from negatively influencing the society.
“The accused persons be isolated from society so they do not continue poisoning the society in which they live in,” reads the affidavit.

The investigating officer, Stephen Chesire, mentioned that if released, the accused individuals would likely evade court proceedings. He added that they present a flight risk, and their place of residence is unknown.
The prosecution argued that they plan to engage essential witnesses. By interviewing and recording their statements, they might uncover information leading to the arrest of additional accomplices.
“Should the respondents be released before the investigations are complete. There is a likelihood that they will interfere with the investigations and complication of evidences,” the court was told.
The prosecution argues that it possesses compelling evidence against the accused persons.
Authorities have charge the four individuals with possession and trafficking of drugs.
