Turning from good to worst, chaos erupted when two opposing political faction clashed at Kerugoya police station on Tuesday. The incident involved the well-known Women Representative, Njeri Maina.
The Women Representative of Kirinyaga County- Njeri Maina, states that she is going to take legal steps against the individual who assaulted her on Tuesday.
Njeri’s lawyer, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, share the news on Friday. This is after she provided a statement about the incident at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) office in Kerugoya.
In addition, Amollo mention that the lawsuit will center on the three main points. Seeking criminal and civil charges against the attackers of Women Rep. He also emphasize the assault on the lawmaker which took place within a police station’s premises.
“The first aspect is the criminal prosecution for this heinous act. The second related to her injuries but now to the criminal files but to the civil matter. The Third aspect is that Maina was actually injured within the vicinity of a police station,” He said.

However, he emphasize the absence of space for political violence in Kenya. Amollo highlights his anticipation for the DCI to promptly wrap up their inquiry into the matter. He mention that Njeri’s assailants are said to be familiar to her.
“She knows those who caused this, she knows those who sent them and we are going to sue them for the suffering that she has gone through,” he said.
In regard, Njeri expresses her trust in the law enforcement authorities to ensure her attackers face consequences. She also urges the youth in Kirinyaga not to allow themselves to be manipulated by politicians for political purposes.
Women Representative Njeri Maina, was assaulted on Tuesday after two groups supporting rivals political faction clashed at the Kerugoya police station.
Njeri, a professional lawyer, accompanying her client, Baragwi MCA David Mathenge to the station. They were there to provide a statement about accusation that he damaged a county government water project in Mukandu-ini village the previous week.
After her client finished giving the statement, Njeri spoke to journalist. She mentioned that she would act as the legal representative for the MCA if he was brought to court.
However, chaos erupted when individuals suspected to be aligned with Waiguru arrive and disrupted the press briefing. They physically attacked supporters of both the Women Representative and the MCA during the incident.
National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, urge the DCI to initiate an investigation into the attack on Women Rep. He also suggest that the DCI should look into Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, people believe the attackers were acting on behalf of the county government.
