Reading Time: < 1 minuteA pastor from Bomet County was arrested in Kisii while trying to board a Matatu to Kisumu, accompanied by a 17-year-old Form four student. The under-age Student , who attends Ngererit Secondary School in Bomet, had been reported missing to the local Police Station in the North Rift County by her relatives. They had received information that the 25-year- old pastor, identified as Kipkoech Rotich, was seen with the girl while boarding a different vehicle bound for Kisumu. According to report, the pastor had been invited to Ngererit Secondary School to deliver sermons. Afterward, he fled with the girl, and they had been evading the police since then. The pair was arrested and is currently held at Nyanchwa Police Station. They will soon be transferred to Mogogosiek Police Station for further actions.

This follows the unfortunate incidents of protester fatalities at the hands of police officers. Speaking in Siaya County during a memorial service for the 12 people who were killed by the police, the leaders accused the police chief of acting recklessly. They criticized him for insensitively suggesting that Azimio had obtained bodies from morgues. Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio, who led the interdenominational memorial service, criticized the government for participating in actions that undermine the constitution. “We have a Constitution that protects the rights but those in power do not respect the Constitution,” Odinga said. “These killings will be avenged… the blood of these people here will not go like that.” Narc Kenya Leader Martha Karua added. The leaders stated that the matter of police brutality willnot be discussed at dialogue table, rather , it will be raised to a higher level. “The matter of police brutality we cannot have it in Bomas talks..this is a serious matter,” Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka noted. “Our people have bared the pain of rogue police…our mothers have burried their sons against their will, this they must get justice,” Homa BAy Governor Gladys Wanga added. “From here we are moving to have a censure motion that IG Koome is not fit to hold public office,” former Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa said. “As leaders, we cannot cry when our people are dying, let us go and table a motion of no confidence against Koome, ” Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma resolved Siaya Governor James Orengo added: “We have visited all police station here in Siaya, there is no single police officer who has reported death.” Raila Odinga told mourners that their cries will not go unanswered: “We want the ICC to take not …ICC must now see the abuse of human rights happening in our country.” The former prime minister mentioned that the coalition will no longer urge their supporters to participate in street protests. Instead, they will advice them to stay indoors and ensure compliance. “Next time we will not tell our people to come to streets, we shall tell people to stay at home and we shall have people stopped from coming out of their homes,” he stated Azimio leaders are set to lead a similar memorial service in Kisumu and Vihiga counties on Saturday.
