Regarding the incident, Peskov and Russia’s foreign ministry referenced the historical U.S. presidential assassination to highlight perceived security vulnerabilities within the United States. Vyacheslav Volodin, Speaker of Russia’s lower house of parliament, attributed the attack to America’s internal political crisis, societal division, and what he described as Washington’s intrusive foreign policies. Volodon also suggested that Trump’s stance on Ukraine might have played a role in the attack, noting Trump’s public call to cease military sponsorship. Russia’s foreign ministry used the shooting to urge the United States to redirect its focus away from funding Ukraine’s military and toward enhancing domestic law enforcement capabilities. Russia’s extensive military actions in Ukraine since 2022 have strained its relations with Western countries to levels not seen since the Cold War’s peak. When asked about the potential impact on the upcoming U.S. election’s legitimacy, Peskov declined to comment, affirming that it was a matter for the United States to decide without Russian interference.
